Lighting specialty

We understand the significant impact lighting has on a completed project. That’s why we take lighting design very seriously, with a lighting certified engineer on our team and a commitment to making clear distinctions on color temperature, modeling all lighting measures, and selecting fixtures that balance performance, maintainability, and cost effectiveness.

Our Design Approach:

While protecting the public we strive to improve the built environment through the design of building electrical systems that both enhance the work of other design professionals and exceed the client’s expectations in performance and maintainability. All projects are unique and meeting these goals means approaching design with a practical focus and an open mind.  Elements of our design approach that help us achieve our objectives:

Design deliverable coordination

At the project outset meet one on one with the prime consultant or architect to establish a clear understanding of workflows, timelines and design inputs needed for all project deliverables. This allows appropriate time for both design of the core electrical systems as well as coordination of any conflicts with other disciplines.

Focused Client Consultation

During schematic design meet with the architect and the client to review design components that will affect the final project from performance and maintainability perspective. These may include lighting, tenant requirements, access control and security as well as any sustainable design aspects.

In every project practical considerations often mean that system design will have tradeoffs to meet project constraints. To ensure client expectations are well managed we commit considerable effort to review all tradeoffs with the owner as they arise.

Hands on discipline coordination

We work closely with our mechanical design colleagues and the architectural designer to specify  physical space constraints focusing on maximizing square footage available to the client while maintaining space for maintenance and eliminating equipment conflicts. All unique power requirements for mechanical equipment and architectural programming are addressed as early as possible to minimize coordination and scope gaps.

Code review and AHJ coordination

Public safety must be maintained in everything we design, and we approach this requirement holistically. This means thoroughly reviewing building codes and working with other professionals to ensure that all aspects of the project meet all necessary requirements. We strive to identify and address any potential code issues before they arise. If any questions or uncertainties are found, we work directly with the authority having jurisdiction during design to ensure that all regulations are fully understood and followed.
